What is Hidden Gems?
Hidden Gems is a free web app that finds nearby places most people miss. Say where you are and what you love, and it shows independent spots with a high Hidden Gem Score. Go, check in, and rate the place afterwards.
What is the Hidden Gem Score?
A number from 0 to 100 computed from public signals only: quality, how far under the radar a place is compared with its neighborhood, whether it is independent rather than a chain, and how rare its category is nearby. A national chain lands near 5. Places at 78 or above qualify as gems. Visitor ratings are shown separately and never feed the score.
Is Hidden Gems free?
Yes. Discovery, check-ins and ratings are free to use.
Where does it work?
Columbus, Ohio for now, while the scoring is tuned on one city. More cities follow once the score is calibrated.
How does checking in work?
Open a place, tap check in, and allow location access. A check-in counts when you are within about 500 feet of the place. After checking in you can rate it from 1 to 5 and leave a short note for yourself.
Do I need an account?
You can browse gems without one. To check in and rate you sign in with an email code, or with Google in a browser. No password is needed.
